5th August 2026, Jinja – Jinja Regional Referral Hospital has commissioned new Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities under the KOFIH/OPM Busoga WASH Project, strengthening the Hospital’s efforts to provide a safe, hygienic and dignified environment for patients, attendants and healthcare workers.

The facilities were donated by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) in partnership with the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) of Uganda as part of ongoing efforts to improve WASH services in health facilities across the Busoga region.

The newly commissioned facilities will improve access to safe water within the Hospital and support better sanitation and hygiene practices. Reliable access to water is particularly important in a healthcare setting, where proper hygiene plays a critical role in preventing and controlling infections.
Beyond infection prevention, improved WASH facilities contribute to the overall patient experience by providing patients and their attendants with cleaner, safer and more dignified surroundings while accessing healthcare services.

The commissioning of the facilities is therefore an important addition to the Hospital’s infrastructure and complements ongoing efforts to strengthen the quality and safety of healthcare delivery.
The Hospital administration appreciated KOFIH and the Office of the Prime Minister for their continued partnership and support towards improving healthcare infrastructure and services.

Jinja Regional Referral Hospital remains committed to working with development partners and other stakeholders to address critical infrastructure needs and create an enabling environment for healthcare workers to deliver quality services to the communities they serve.

Safe water, proper sanitation and good hygiene are not only essential to infection prevention—they are fundamental to safe, quality and dignified healthcare.
