Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, Uganda Cancer Institute Hold Second Gynaecological Surgical Camp
Jinja, Uganda – Jinja Regional Referral Hospital (JRRH), in partnership with the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), is conducting a five-day Gynaecological Surgical Camp from 19th to 23rd October 2026, bringing specialised cancer care closer to women in Busoga and the surrounding communities.
The camp brings together 25 health professionals from UCI and 15 from JRRH, with 25 surgeries scheduled. It is coordinated by Dr. Martin Origa of UCI and Dr. Jennifer Ajok of Jinja RRH.
Beyond surgery, the camp provides screening, consultations and health education to promote early detection, timely treatment and greater awareness of cancers affecting the female reproductive system.
These include cervical, ovarian, uterine (endometrial), vaginal and vulvar cancers. Cervical cancer is the most common gynaecological cancer in Uganda and remains a major cause of cancer-related deaths among women. Early screening and diagnosis are crucial in improving treatment outcomes.
This is the second gynaecological surgical camp held at JRRH, reflecting the hospital’s continued commitment to expanding access to specialised services and improving women’s health outcomes across the region.
