Jinja Regional Referral Hospital Strengthens Access to Specialised Eye Care Through Weekly Surgery Programme
11th August, 2026, Jinja – Jinja Regional Referral Hospital continues to provide essential eye care services to patients in the Busoga region through its weekly eye surgery programme.
Every Tuesday, patients who have been diagnosed with eye conditions and scheduled for surgery through the Hospital’s Outpatient Department (OPD) undergo various eye procedures carried out by the Hospital’s eye care and surgical teams.
Cataract surgeries are the most common procedure performed during these weekly surgeries. On a typical surgery day, the Hospital performs between 15 and 30 eye surgeries, depending on the number and nature of cases scheduled.
In addition to cataract surgeries, the team also performed procedures involving the removal and examination of abnormal eye tissue, as well as surgeries to manage other serious eye conditions.
Following surgery, all patients are reviewed the next day to assess their recovery, monitor for any complications and ensure that they are progressing well.
The weekly programme is part of the Hospital’s commitment to providing accessible and quality specialised eye care to patients within the region, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances in search of treatment.
